Mormons are a Christian community of believers in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was founded by Joseph Smith in the 1820s in the state of New York, United States of America.
Mormon beliefs are based on the core beliefs of Christianity. However, Mormons also hold some different beliefs. Some of these beliefs are:
God is a being made up of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This belief is called the Trinity.
Most denominations of Christianity accept the Trinity. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and took God's body. This is one of the fundamental beliefs of Christianity.
Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again. This is one of the basic beliefs of Christianity. The Bible is the word of God, but it is incomplete. Mormons believe that the Bible is an incomplete part of God's word.
Joseph Smith was a prophet chosen by God. Mormons believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet chosen by God.
In 1820, Joseph Smith claimed that an angel appeared to him and told him that a secret book of God's word was buried. Smith found this book and claimed to have translated it from "Egyptian Hebrew". This book is known as the Book of Mormon.
Smith claimed that the Book of Mormon was written by the Israelites who first came to the United States. This claim led Mormons to see the United States as "God's chosen country".
In 1830, Mormons became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, founded by Joseph Smith. Today, this church is the largest Mormon community in the world.
Mormons, like most Christians, place great importance on family and morality. Mormons embrace values such as honesty, hard work and charity. Mormons, like other Christians, attend church regularly and are baptized.
However, Mormons also have some different practices. For example, after the age of 18, Mormon men serve as missionaries for two years, according to the Levitical Law.
There are approximately 16 million Mormons worldwide. Of this number, about 10 million live in the United States. Other large Mormon communities are located in Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, and Africa.
Mormons play an important role in the social and cultural life of the United States. Mormons are also active in the political life of the United States. Mormons also carry out missionary work in many countries around the world. Mormon missionaries go all over the world to spread Mormon beliefs.
