Diego Armando Maradona was born on October 30, 1960 in Lanús, Argentina. He is an Argentine former footballer and coach. Many experts consider Maradona to be the greatest footballer of all time.
Diego Maradona started playing soccer at a young age. In 1976, when he was only 15 years old, he turned professional at Argentinos Juniors in Argentina. In the four seasons he played for Argentinos Juniors, he scored 116 goals in 167 matches.
In 1981, he transferred to Boca Juniors, one of the most popular clubs in Argentina. In the two seasons he played for Boca Juniors, he scored 28 goals in 40 matches. He won two Copa Libertadores championships with Boca Juniors.
In 1982, he transferred to Barcelona, Spain. In the two seasons he played for Barcelona, he scored 38 goals in 58 matches.
He won the La Liga championship with Barcelona. However, Maradona was dismissed from the team due to drug problems he had in Barcelona.
In 1984, he was transferred to Napoli in Italy. In the seven seasons he played for Napoli, he scored 115 goals in 259 matches. He won two Serie A championships, one UEFA Cup championship, one Italian Cup championship and two UEFA Cup Winners' Cup championships with Napoli.
Maradona won the 1986 FIFA World Cup with the Argentina national team. His "hand of God" goal against England in the World Cup final, known as the "goal of the match", is among the most memorable goals in football history.
Maradona also played the final of the 1990 FIFA World Cup with Argentina. However, he lost 3-2 to West Germany and came second.
In the next World Cup, the 1994 FIFA World Cup, he was disqualified from the tournament for doping.
Some of the clubs Maradona played for are; Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla. Maradona retired from football at Boca Juniors in 2001.
